I have had social media for a very long time. While it was more of a creative outlet for me, until recently.. Deleting social media is personal journey, here is mine.
It all started with MySpace. I didn’t have a ton of friends growing up, so I took a different route with it. I used it to express myself. I would take codes from website themes and tweak them to my liking, periodically changing it to match how I was feeling at the time. Finding songs to complement that theme was my absolute favorite part. It was fun for me.
This Post Is All About Deleting Social Media

As the years went on, there was Facebook, which I found very boring, as it really had no creative aspect to it. It was strictly informational and chatting. Then there was Instagram later on, which, of course, I found to be a new creative platform. I’d theme out my photos and keep the colors consistent as best I could. It was just another way to express my creativity, and I had fun with it for a while.
That’s what it was for me for a while. Then, social media became this very real job for some people. They implemented ads as well as short-form videos. I was still using it to update what I was doing, as well as trying to maintain a theme, but it all just felt so different. I got sucked into constantly updating what I was doing and sharing my every thought. I was starting to scroll for hours at a time, comparing my life and my looks. I would open my phone just to unconsciously open the apps when that wasn’t the intention I had.
The purpose of these social platforms had died a long time ago for me. I just hadn’t realized it yet. I had come to a very low point in my life, and being on these platforms was not helping. So, I decided to delete them. I had come across some YouTube videos of others doing the same, and I felt very confident in my decision.

I had come across a particular video where she had deleted social media and created a website instead, and all I could think was “Of course, a WEBSITE”. Everything I had loved about MySpace would exist on my own website, just without the social aspect, of course, but it would be my creative space. I could do whatever I wanted and just give my address online, so to speak, to those I care about.
Then this website was born, and I don’t think I’ll ever look back. I can’t express enough how blissfully unaware of the next best thing, the next update from someone, the next ad, the next sponsored post, the next… whatever, really is. I get to focus on what I love: those around me, my creative project, MY life, without the social media pressures, and I love it here. I feel peace and I feel balanced.
